Action Trackchair® AXIS Actuator Replacement Service Guide
Estimated Repair Time:
30-45 Minutes
Required Tools:

  • Impact Wrench
  • 7/16 socket
  • 9/16 socket
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Wire Cutters

Uninstalling the faulty actuator

  1. Remove the Motor Control cover plate.
  2. Using the impact wrench with a 9/16 socket, disassemble the wheelie bar skid plate by removing the four bolts.
  3. Once removed, disassemble the actuator housing by removing the four ¼ 20 hex bolts and washers.
  4. Power on the chair
  5. Tilt the chair all the way forward to completely shorten the actuator to reveal the cotter pin.
  6. Power off the chair
  7. From the rear of the chair, remove the cotter pin from the head of the actuator using a needle nose pliers.
  8. Underneath the seat assembly, locate the AM3L control module. Remove the two-pin Molex connector that runs from the actuator to the AM3L control module.
  9. Carefully cut and discard the zip ties fastened to the two-pin Molex wire running from the actuator. Two above the motor control plate and two under the seat of the chair near the AM3L control module.
  10. Once the wheelie bar skid plate and housing have been removed, remove the hairpin clip and washer from the actuator and set aside for the install phase.
  11. To complete the uninstallation, remove the pin and plastic spacers from the actuator. The actuator will release from the wheelie bar skid plate.
  12. Carefully remove the wire from under the seat assembly and discard the faulty actuator.

Installing the new actuator

  1. Before installing the new actuator, plug in the two-pin Molex connector to the AM3L control module.
  2. Turn on the hand control module and confirm the error code #58 has been cleared.
  3. Once error code clearance has been confirmed, installation of the new actuator can be resumed.
  4. Making sure the two-pin Molex wire side of the actuator is facing up, install the pin and plastic spacers underneath the wheelie bar skid plate. Make sure the hairpin is facing up.
  5. Feed the two-pin Molex wire under the seat assembly and to the AM3L control module.
  6. Reinstall the actuator housing with the four (4) 1/20 hex bolts and washers.
  7. Thread the actuator pin through the seat assembly frame and actuator head.
  8. After successfully threading the pin through the frame and head of the actuator, secure it with the cotter pin and washer.
  9. Test and confirm that the actuator is correctly installed and that the chair is properly tilting.
  10. Neatly organize and zip-tie the two-pin Molex actuator wire.
  11. Reinstall wheelie bar skid plate.
  12. Reinstall motor control cover plate by securing it using the hand knobs.
  13. Once again, confirm the error code is cleared in the hand control module. Test chair functionality.
